Program

Proof of Concept is designed to be the pre-eminent accelerator for the next generation of talented filmmakers whose stories promote the perspectives of women, trans, and non-binary people. The program focuses on the elements that rising talent needs to be successful in the industry, particularly around financing and mentorship. Designed by industry leaders, Proof of Concept will see filmmakers through the production and exhibition of a short film, with the goal of supporting material that will lead directly to a feature or episodic series. The accelerator has 3 elements: financial support, mentorship, and film exhibition. The goal of these three components is to address three of the most significant barriers directors face as they navigate the industry, based on research from Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative.

Film Funding

The first component—$50,000 in funding— tackles difficulty filmmakers have obtaining financing, particularly for stories that focus on women, trans, and non-binary perspectives.

Mentorship

The second component—one-on-one mentorship and guidance from industry leaders—plugs the program participants into a system of support and opportunity.

Project Showcase

The third and final aspect of the program—an industry-facing showcase—will provide a spotlight on work that puts the perspectives of women, trans, and non-binary people front and center.
